How to get Teams to dial from a web page
In this article we describe how to get Teams to call from a web page, which oddly, by default, it does not.
Sometimes this is known as “Click to Call”
To make this work, you need to get your computer to recognise and take action when it sees a tel: link on a web site. If you set Teams as the application, then Teams will automatically launch and initiate a call.
If you need to test whether your machine does this, try clicking this number. +44 1444 848055
Generally, you will find your mobile phone will do this automatically, and many other Dialer applications other than Teams will have this set already.
Here’s a guide on how to enter the settings to make it work.
Go to Default Apps (use search in the task bar – and type default apps)
Once Default Apps is open, where it says “search apps” (NOT where it says Enter a file or link type) – Type Teams in the search apps box.
There are settings for many phone protocols. If you use Teams for all calling activity, we would recommend that you set them all to Microsoft Teams
By default there will probably be no settings for SIP, Tel, IM, SIPS etc – just click each one and select Microsoft Teams.
Once done, please use our Test telephone number at the top of this page.
